8 Tips To Prevent Hair Fall in Women

Hair fall is one of the most irritating and stressful issues faced by women. According to research, an average woman loses about a hundred strands of hair in a day. So, if you feel like you are losing more than that, there could be several reasons why that is happening.

Hair fall could be related to

  • Your age
  • Hormonal levels if you have recently given birth
  • Diet
  • Stress
  • Overall health

So, if your hair loss is related to pregnancy, it will only last for about 6 months. But if this period has passed and hair fall still persists, you may have to consult a hair transplant surgeon. If you can see a bald patch, then you might require Platelet-enriched plasma therapy.

Nonetheless, it is better to stop worrying and start acting to prevent further hair fall.

Let’s see some tips to prevent hair fall and thinning:

1: Maintain a hair-friendly diet:

This means lots of vitamins and proteins. You must have a major intake of foods rich in zinc, iron, and Vitamin B12. It would help if you stock your fridge with fish, leafy greens, and nuts. Some animal proteins also carry a lot of Vitamin B12 and iron.

2: Stay hydrated

Apart from the diet, make sure you are always hydrated. Drink water at frequent intervals. It may be hard to create a routine of drinking water initially, but once you start you will get used to it. You can add some fruit or cucumbers to your water. Set some reminders on your phone so that you are regularly drinking water throughout the day. Staying hydrated is vital for maintaining healthy, long, and thick hair.

3: Reduce stress in your life

Stress is a significant factor contributing to hair loss. Nowadays, with the way we live, we tend to get so busy that we forget to give time to ourselves. So, make sure that you give yourself time to de-stress and relax. Meditating, reading books, taking regular walks, or just taking deep breaths helps a lot. So, whatever it is that enables you to relax, do it because that will help your hair.

4: Massage your hair

Massage is great to help stimulate more hair growth and get thicker hair. So, give yourself a nice scalp massage. Use your fingertips and gently, in a circular motion, massage your scalp and head all over. It will add some circulation and blood flow into your head and scalp, hence stimulating hair growth. You can increase the effectiveness of your massage by adding a little bit of castor oil. It is known to stimulate hair growth, keeping it healthy and soft. Lavender essential oil, cypress, carrot seed, and even coconut oil have regenerative ingredients that will boost hair growth. Massage your scalp daily before bed, or at least one to three times a week.

5: Brush your hair the right way

Make sure you are not over-brushing your hair because it causes a lot of friction and pulling. Keep the brushing as minimal as possible, and when you do brush your hair, you want to make sure that you are using the right type of brush. Always choose a wide-tooth comb rather than near-tight plastic bristles. A wide-tooth comb is gentle on your hair. Brush your way from the bottom, working your way up to the top. Never start brushing from the roots, and just dragging the brush down. It is harsh and pulls your hair, and it will cause more shedding. You want to avoid as much friction as possible and be super gentle on your hair.

6: Brush your hair before a shower

Brushing your hair before you shower reduces hair loss.  While brushing during a shower, you will see a lot of hair shedding. Try to shower in the morning instead of at night before bed. This is because sleeping with damp hair and soggy follicles can be damaging. Sleeping with wet hair causes a lot of friction between your hair and pillowcase, making your hair more prone to damage.

7: Avoid hot water showers

Strictly avoid hot water for showers because it is very dehydrating on your hair locks. Dehydration causes more brittle strands that will break and cause you to experience more hair loss. Choose lukewarm water when you are taking a shower. When you are washing out your conditioner use cold water. This routine will give you extra shiny hair.

8: Dry your hair gently

When you are drying your hair, you want to make sure you use the right type of towel. Use a microfiber towel or even an old t-shirt rather than a regular towel because they have harsh and rough fibers that cause a lot of friction. Always pat your hair dry and also gently squeeze your hair. Avoid rubbing and putting towel turbans. The whole point is to be gentle with your hair. You do not want to be rough with it, so no aggressive towel drying.
